MY DAUGHTER, MAY Allah bless her, remains observant of those around her.
She could see the great anguish that we are going through with what is happening in Palestine over the last month.
So to lighten our mood she decided to make the whole family breakfast one morning.
She was earnest about it and started preparing a week before. A digital menu was developed. The night before she took me shopping for all the items needed.
In the morning we were all airdropped the menu directly to our phones and later she came in and took our orders.
She prepared everything single-handedly behind a locked kitchen door and some time later we were summoned to breakfast.
Everything was beautifully laid out and prepared.
‘Why did you do all this?’ I asked.
‘Because I wanted to be appreciative,’ she replied.
‘Well thank you and may Allah bless you always. The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah.’ (Abi Dawud) I enjoyed the food and appreciate your thoughtfulness but what I enjoyed most was that you brought everyone together for breakfast around the table. We rarely get a chance to eat breakfast together as we are so busy with our different schedules.’
As I look back I realise this is one of those sunrise moments and a reminder to be grateful for what Allah has given to us and the difficulties that He has saved us from.
‘All praise is due to Allah, who has fed us and given us to drink, and has sufficed and granted us refuge. And how many are they who have none to suffice them and none to grant them refuge?‘ (Tirmidhi)
