‘I WANT Q,’ my daughter excitedly said over dinner.
‘What’s that?’
‘It’s the acronym for the things that make salah valid,’ she replied.
We all looked puzzled, giving her the cue to continue and explain.
‘So I is intention. W is wudhu. A is awrah that needs to be covered. N is the najasah that our bodies, clothes and place of prayer need to be pure from. T is the time of the prayer that has to be correct. And can you guess what Q is?’
‘It must be Qiblah- facing the Qiblah for prayer!’
‘Yes, you’ve got it.’
My daughter attends an Islamic school and all praise to Allah that she enjoys and is receptive to her Islamic studies class.
It only makes sense to continue to encourage that at home, so that there is no disconnect between home and school. Such conversations are beneficial reminders for us that add to the atmosphere of Islam at home, and her using a teaching style is a good way of revising and embedding her knowledge.
